Katie's Jar was founded in 2011 in my kitchen with the goal of providing fresh, preservative- free dog treats for my beagle Katie. Picture Baby Boom but with a beagle instead of a baby... Beagle Boom! I took my first batch of treats, biscuits and empanadas, out to the farmer's market and I've been baking ever since. I've grown our our current menu to include treats for grain-free, raw, vegan, and a lot of biscuits!
All of our treats are baked with fresh, human grade ingredients. No fillers, no preservatives, no additives, no flavors are ever used. I like to keep a normal rotation of treats plus seasonal offerings that take advantage of fresh fruits and veggies. I use natural fibers from spent grain from local breweries and juice pulp from Revolucion Juice + Coffee cold pressed juice.

Katie passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. She went into renal failure in March and was undergoing treatment with the hopes her kidneys would regain some function. That didn't happen. Her kidneys were too damaged to go on and I made the hardest decision for me but the best one for her. After visits with family and a blessing from Fr. Jim, she went to sleep surrounded my me, her grandma, and her favorite vet tech. I hope she went knowing how much we loved her.
It was my mission to create healthier, preservative treats that complimented her diet that set me on this path that I would have never gone down by myself. She was my dog biscuit muse, my side kick, my lazy day nappin' buddy, and the best dog ever. She will be missed but her legacy will live on in our logo and the treats she inspired. I know I will always have her with me in the kitchen. Thank you for all the notes and kind words. I hope you love your dog loves the treats as much as she did!
