This Sick Pup
We’ve done a little bit of redecorating over here. IV bags have replaced scarves on the coat rack and a spare bag of fluid is resting on the nightstand. Supplements, vitamins, and medications are in the medicine cabinet. The patient? Katie Thompson, of course. It took a few hours to transform my house into a canine nursing home to keep up with Katie’s incredibly scary diagnosis of renal failure and pancreatitis. We went from going on walks to me administering subcutaneous fluids and waking up every few hours to carry her outside to pee. I know... it's been a week.
So what’s a girl to do when her favorite beagle is sick? Break out the healing power of Arroz Con Pollo, beagle style. I knew I could tempt her to eat with the doggie version of my favorite sick food so I pulled two of her favorite foods from the fridge, butternut squash and chicken breast.
Butternut Squash provides a whopping amount of health benefits. Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, potassium, fiber, magnesium and manganese. Everything she needs to fuel her body while she recuperates.
To make this dish for your dog you’ll need:
1 Chicken Breast, cubed
1 cup of butternut squash
1 cup brown rice
3 cups water (you can add more to make this more of a soup)
Place everything in a skillet and bring to boil, turning the heat all the way down. Cover the pan tightly with a lid and cook on the lowest heat possible for 20 minutes. Stirring occasionally.
Super easy and a nutritious meal for your sick pup!
